A portion of the SSAE program funds can be used for increasing effective use of technology to improve the academic achievement, academic growth, and digital literacy of all students.  Technology can accelerate, amplify, and expand the impact of effective practices that support student learning, increase community engagement, foster safe and healthy environments, and enable well-rounded educational opportunities. Digital Promise created a framework for districts interested in learning about how to pilot educational technology initiatives.

Practitioners can proceed through each step of the pilot framework or review tools, resources, and educator testimonials.

Digital Promise bases their framework on research conducted between 2011 and 2016 in 15 LEAs piloting educational technology projects.

Blended learning integrates self-paced online content with in-person instruction delivered by a licensed educator. When implemented well, this approach allows teachers to differentiate instruction for their students.

The Clayton Christensen Institute created the Blended Learning Universe website to provide free information on how to implement this program in classrooms.

The website includes descriptions of seven instructional models for blended learning, design considerations for school personnel, and a research repository.
